Beau reported that Bill Standish, chair of CAS, was pleased with CEPP’s agreement with CAS’s decision to eliminate the possibility for certain student to receive an exemption from the Non-Western and Cultural Centered Inquiry requirement. 3. Beau distributed CAPT’s draft of procedures for tenure-track lines shared between departments/programs. At the March 2007 faculty meeting CEPP intends to bring its motion to the faculty on the creation of tenure-track lines shared between departments/programs. Some members of CEPP will attend the Feb. 9th Academic-Staff meeting where CAPT’s procedures will be distributed and discussed. 4. Michael Ennis-McMillan and Ruth Andrea Levinson will attend CEPP’s Feb. 6th meeting to discuss internships and service learning respectively. We also intend to invite Mike Profita and Penny Loretto for the internship discussion. 5. At the Feb 2 faculty meeting CEPP intends to bring 2 motions: 1) eliminating our affiliation with Cardoza Law School and 2) writing proposal. We spent most of the meeting discussing the writing proposal and in particular three aspects: 1) the position of writing director and 2) the role of “professional” in the writing center and 3) the bullet on departments creating WI courses. There are four options for the position of writing director: 1) a fulltime administrator in Academic Affairs (similar to the Director of International Programs) 2) a tenure-track/tenured faculty member in the administration but teaching 2 courses (similar to the Director of the FYE) 3) a tenure-track/tenured faculty member with administrative duties but outside the administration with one or two course releases (similar to the Director of Expository Writing) 4) a 3-year contract hire (non-tenure track) After some discussion we agreed that for 2007-08 it would be best to pursue option 3 and have the VPAA or DOF appoint a 91АЕЭј faculty member to serve a one-year term as Writing Director. During this person’s one-year term they would to get the program off the ground and help organize the search for a longer-term Writing Director along the lines of options 1 or 2. We discussed the possibility of hiring a professional in the Writing Center. We discussed 4 models: 1) the teaching associate model in the sciences, 2) the minority fellowship model in American Studies, 3) internal sabbatical replacement, and 4) high school English teacher. We also agreed that the bullet in the writing proposal on developing WI courses within departments should add WE courses. So it now reads: “develop WE and ideally WI courses at the 100-, 200-, or 300-level and deliver these courses regularly (year 3-4)” We discussed the guidelines for a writing enhanced course and agreed tentatively on the following: Writing Enhanced Guidelines What follows is not a prescriptive definition of a Writing Enhanced (WE) course – recognizing that faculty and, indeed, disciplines approach writing in various ways – but rather general guidelines. CEPP recommends that in a Writing Enhanced course 1) students have repeated writing experiences of one-, two-, and/or three-five page writing assignments throughout the course with a suggested total of 10-20 pages; these assignments may be in addition to longer writing (particularly final) projects. This writing can take a variety of forms (e.g., lab reports, essays, research papers, response papers, journals, etc.). 2) students receive feedback from the faculty on these assignments – in writing and/or in small group or one-on-one tutorials; faculty may choose to employ peer critiques of student writing as well. 3) students have the opportunity to revise some of their writing. The faculty can choose to play an active role in the revision process, or, conversely, the faculty could require the students to take their written work to the Writing Center, revise and then submit to the faculty the first and final drafts of their work.” We intend to continue to discuss the writing proposal at the next CEPP meeting. А"А# $ %АЅD@ёџD NormalCJOJQJ_HmH sH tH DA@ђџЁD Default Paragraph FontViѓџГV Table Normal :V і4ж4ж laі (kєџС(No List Š џџџџ џџ z™ џџ z™, ŠЖЗбвХЦOP89ЪЫЛМњ^йŒЙК+ , ? @ ? ГF6Xox ]3 ў‚5|k  6 ўЗџџWБ и6Œ0џџџџ– 7Œ0џџџџ zXrЫ џ@€Ѓ Ѓ 0ž\Ѓ Ѓ [љпџTќSŠ @џџUnknownџџџџџџџџџџџџGTimes New Roman5€Symbol3 Arial3Times"qˆ№аhЯВЦЯВЦdЃ xС№ ДД24dП‹73ƒQ№мHX)№џ? Document.8
