Minutes of March 30 and April 6 approved (the latter with minor revision) II. Grade Appeal Procedure: On behalf of the subcommittee charged with this topic, Erica reported on recent consultations regarding the draft proposal. Echoing previous comments from Academic Staff, the Academic Council of SGA has suggested expanding the policy to include the appeal of final grades other than F. Students are also concerned about conducting appeals in cases where a faculty member has left the college. CAFR is concerned about the impact on faculty members academic freedom. The consultation process will continue into the next academic year and will include an open forum in the fall. III. Assessment Steering Committee Goals for Student Learning: CEPP members agreed that they approve of the goals in themselves, but have concerns about: a) the audience for whom the statement of goals is intended; b) the need for providing framing and context, depending on the intended audience; c) the need for clarifying how the goals, stated in general terms, relate to distinctive qualities of a 91 education; d) the difficulty of moving from general goals to specific assessment questions (understood to be the next step projected by the Assessment Steering Committee). IV. Academic Calendar 2011-12: Joining CEPP for this discussion, Ann Henderson reported on the extensive process of consultation resulting in the proposal she presented. Discussion centered on the use, number, and placement of study days. The Dean of the Faculty and the Dean of Student Affairs are conferring about this issue and will report back to CEPP for further review of the policy. CEPP endorsed the 2011-12 calendar as presented by Ann Henderson. V. Academic Affairs: Budget Priorities and Planning. VPAA Susan Kress presented a preliminary draft outlining principles, areas for assessment and study, and process for constructing budget under the severe economic constraints current and projected. Discussion centered on those areas relating most directly to CEPPs responsibility for educational policy. CEPP expects to return to these topics repeatedly as the planning process proceeds. VI. Next meeting: April 20 at 8:30 am in Library 213 Meeting was adjourned at 10:00 am.
