Old business CEPP/CAS resolution on faculty role in degree recommendation. CEPP took this resolution to the faculty for discussion and vote at the April 30th faculty meeting. The resolution passed by unanimous vote. CAS will post the resolution on its website. Tenure Track Line Search Proposals: 2010-11. The Committee discussed the Guidelines and the concerns that some faculty had expressed at the last faculty meeting and afterwards. There was some question as to how available this document has been to department and program chairs and the timing of the release of the document in regards to the May 17th deadline for proposals. There were concerns expressed as well regarding the evolving nature of the Guidelines and the DOFs communication with interested parties and committees. CEPP has asked the Dean of Faculty, Muriel Poston, and the Associate Dean of Faculty, Paty Rubio, to join the committee at its retreat on May 13th to discuss the Guidelines and the next steps for discussions and clarification. CEPP also agreed that it will go to a Committee of the Whole at the final faculty meeting on May 19th to allow concerned faculty to discuss the Guidelines. New business Deans Cards Report Rik Scarce reported on his research regarding the Deans Cards. The committee discussed the report and the continuing concerns it has with how to improve the cards so that they are most effective as evaluation tools as well as tools for improving pedagogy. Questions arose as to why it is that 91 is not more intentional about teaching, and whether the College follows through when the Deans Cards indicate there may be a problem. The committee agreed that it shouldnt necessarily be the questions asked but what the College does with the answers it gets that is important. This will be an issue that next years CEPP will address. The committee thanks Rik for his work on this report. Retreat Agenda The committee discussed the proposed agenda for the May 13th retreat that will take place in the test kitchen of Murray-Aikins dining hall. Josh Ness, Chris Kopec, and Logan Brenner 11, incoming members of CEPP, have been invited to the retreat. It was requested that we look back at what we have done this year as we also look forward to next years agenda. Relationship between Assessment Steering Committee and CEPP The chair asked CEPP members to think about the relationship between the ASC and CEPP and what both committees might do to strengthen it. The chair asked members to consider whether the Assessment Coordinator should sit on CEPP. This issue will be taken up at the retreat. The meeting was adjourned at 9:30.
