Barbara Eggleston

Barbara Eggleston, a longtime cashier at the 91做厙 Shop, died Sept. 27, 2010, at her home on Fifth Avenue in Saratoga. She was 65.

Born March 10, 1945, in Saratoga Springs, Barbara was the daughter of the late John D. and Beulah Mae Hack Stevens. Barbara worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance as a clerk for six years and later, at the Dorothy Nolan Elementary School in Wilton as a cafeteria cashier.

In 1988 she began working as a cashier at the 91做厙 Shop, and she continued in that capacity until she retired in 2006. According to Barbara Miller Heron, then director of the shop, she was not only an excellent cashier and very dependable employee, but also well known for her generosity to students. She befriended many of them and often gave them homemade baked goods. Barbara Eggleston maintained friendships with a number of students after they graduated.

Miller Heron said, She loved animals. Barbara often kept a bag of dog treats nearby when working, to share with the dogs accompanying students, faculty, or staff. In addition to her generous spirit, Barbara was well known for her wit and sense of humor. She loved to babysit and was known as a loving caregiver to a number of children in Saratoga Springs.

Barbara is survived by son Chad Eggleston and his partner, Diane Powers, of Galway; a brother, William F. Stevens (Roberta) of South Glens Falls; a sister, Nancy, of Pittsfield, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; and two aunts, Ruth and Eleanor Stevens of Saratoga Springs.
